"The Presence Among"

Art & Words by Charles Kish

In the sport of the Matador.

In the taunting of the beast.

In the blood thirst roar.

In the post sacrificial feast.

In the vision of the Gypsy.

In the timid steps of prey.

In the unfurling leaves of tea.

In the curse forever to stay.

In the conquest of Rome.

In the pillage from its legion.

In the stale air of catacombs.

In the cheers from coliseum.

In the collusion among senate.

In the maneuver for power and gain.

In the cold sweat of assassins.

In the spilled blood and stain.

In the crowned thorns of a king.

In the forsaken cry of the one.

In the brutal hours under blackened sky.

In the crucifixion of the son.

Lies the callous around the inured heart.

Lies the evolved refinement of self-deceit.

Lies the spiteful shadows generations impart.

Lie the sins reassigned, bound to repeat.
